			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The common question that is asked when looking for a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: do I buy an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, short for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, which stands for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most popular projector imaging technologies. With so many brands and different models available, it can be confusing for consumers to decide between those technologies. It comes down to the fact that LCD projectors provide far better image quality and colour accuracy. The following article will explain why DLP projectors struggle with bringing up the same rate of image quality.</p>
<p>Imagine a set of blinds in your home on your bedroom window. By twisting a rod you can turn the shutters open or closed, according to if you want to let light in or not. And that is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel functions like a unique shutter on a set of blinds to either pass light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is made up of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the pros like to call them. Each pixel element functions to either reflect light or block it.</p>
<p>How the light source is processed from the point when the projector is turned on to when the image reaches your screen is ultimately significant for image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors process white light from the lamp by cutting it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which project the coloured light to 3 different LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels cast the elements of the image by shining each pixel on and off. The pixels are then projected in a glass prism to send the projector image. A significant point to understad about LCD projectors is that all three colours are delivered onto your wall all at once. The way a DLP projector works is widely different and even the way an image looks is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is projected through a spinning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This way of forming an image casts a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to form the image elements. The elements of the image are displayed in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer&#8217;s eyes will then draw each coloured element of the image into a full image. From LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to offer high brightness and fantastic colour accuracy. In DLP, only one colour is available at any given time, and so causing lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some DLP designers have added a white segment into the colour wheel to improve all over brightness, but this further degrades colour accuracy.</p>
<p>I see in forums all the time that DLP provides a higher contrast ratio and thus must be better. For those unsure, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the projector is capable of producing. DLP projectors do offer high contrast specifications compared to many LCD projectors. At one glance, this must be a benefit, however, in reality, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room where the projector is being utilised. Do not be hoodwinked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.</p>
<p>When the content you are trying to view needs moving images, DLP projection technology also creates image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most common artifact that a DLP projector displays with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is to be expected in DLP systems because moving images keep changing between the time red, blue and green colours are pulled up. LCD projectors do not have this characteristic because every colour is delivered at once. DLP builders have come up with 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to answer the colour break up issue, but the expense of these projectors make them impractical for many businesses and consumers.</p>
<p>Another point of difference between LCD and DLP is how they compensate for the refractive qualities of light. Jump back to high school science, and recall when they taught you how the different colours of light refract different amounts when directed through the same lens. The downfall with DLP projectors is that they use the one same panel for the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are not the same and refract light in different ways. Often with a DLP projector, a spill of yellow colour will come through above and some blue will show below an image containing something as simple as a straight black line. While being built LCD projectors can be set to minimize these effects on the projected image, as each colour is processed on isolated LCD panels.</p>
<p>The one veritable benefit (excluding price) with going with a DLP projector is its smaller overall size and weight. However, this is only relevant in regard to transporting the device and must be traded off against the image advantages of LCD projectors. If resulting picture quality is important to you, then the answer is a no-brainer. Choose an LCD projector! LCD projectors will consistently show bright, colourful images with fewer image errors. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the Dutch found preeminence in sea power during the 17th century, the early yacht had been a leisure craft used initially by royalty and then by the burghers in the canals and the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing yachts was incidental, coming out of private matches. English yachting started with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his reaffirmation to the English throne in 1660, the city of Amsterdam presented him with a 20-metre (66-foot) leisure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, reigned 1685–88), built more yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and returning, on a Â£100 punt. Yachting was found to be classy with the rich and royalty, but after that point the trend did not last.</p>
<p>The first yacht association in the British Isles, the Water Club, was formed at about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard organization, and held large naval panoply and gravity. The closest thing to a race was the “chase,” when the “fleet” pursued an imagined enemy. The club endured, largely as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, after joining with other groups, it became known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).</p>
<p>Yacht racing was seen in some organized manner on the Thames around the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland founded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to the throne in 1820, it was then known as the Fleet to His Majesty&#8217;s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded with a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht society had been formed at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal patronage made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continuing location of British racing. The society at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, also at the accession of George IV. All members were required to have boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing matches for great stakes were held, and the society life was superlative. Ultimately Royal Yachting Club boats were raised in size to over 350 tons.</p>
<p>In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and went on when the English gained dominance. Sailing was for the most part for pleasure and rose to its apogee in George Crowinshield&#8217;s Cleopatra&#8217;s Barge (1815), which sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and created a standard of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in that area from the late 19th century. The first continuing American yacht association, the Detroit Boat Club, was instigated in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens founded the New York Yacht Club aboard his schooner Gimcrack.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of sailboats<br /></strong>Early sailing yachts were within the design of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through to the later half of the 19th century. The design of sizeable yachts was first greatly impacted by the victory of America, which was designed by George Steers for a association started by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America&#8217;s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its success at Cowes in 1851. Earlier yachts were not designed and crafted in a contemporary sense, with just a model for an outline. Not until the second half of the 19th century did what was labeled naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the use of the study of aerodynamics do for the craft of sails and rigging what such study had earlier done for hulls.</p>
<p>Because nearly all sailboats were individually custom-built, there was a desire for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were designed. Thus, a rating rule was created, which resulted in the International Rule, taken on in 1906 and revised in 1919. In the present day, one of the fastest blossoming areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are manufactured to standard requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other elements (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing for those boats can be had on an even playing field with no handicapping at all. A perfect example is the uniform International America&#8217;s Cup Class taken on board for participants in the 1992 America&#8217;s Cup race.</p>
<p>As long as yachting was an activity mostly for the nobility and the rich, expense was no issue, and the size of boats grew, in both length and weight. The ascendancy and preference of smaller yachts occurred in the second half of the 19th century in the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A voyage around the world (1895–98) led single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray proved the value of small craft. Later in the 20th century, for the larger part after World War II, smaller racing and recreational boats became more common, down to the dinghy, a favoured training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, craft of less than 3 m were sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of power yachts<br /></strong>Post the decade 1840–50, during which steam began to emulate sail power in market boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were used increasingly in leisure boats. Large power yachts were furthered to a high element, and long-distance sailing was a preferred pastime of the rich. The early power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; these then gave rise to those powered by the wholly submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. As in the case of naval and merchant yachts, auxiliaries possessing both sail and power were the yacht archetype for several years. By the later half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the large part were only power yachts containing gasoline or diesel engines.</p>
<p>During the last decade of the 19th century there was a rise in the manufacture of more sizeable steam yachts. In particular within these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, with triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was operated by a crew of at least 150. The Mayflower, purchased by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and saw active service during World War II.</p>
<p>As larger and better quality internal-combustion engines were produced, many large yachts started using them for power. The development of the diesel engine, using heavy oil for fuel, advanced during World War I. During the decade after, large power-yacht creation blossomed, hitting a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. From that period the largest auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.</p>
<p>The building of larger power yachts lessened in 1932, and the fashion from then was for smaller, less pricey craft. Following World War II, lots of small naval craft were sold to private owners for conversion to yachts. In the late 20th century, yachting has become a internationally loved activity enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen who are actually manning and maintaining their own small leisure boats. A progressive tax is characterizable by a higher than proportional growth in the tax burden in regard to the increase in income, and a regressive tax is characterized by a less than proportional increase in the relative onus. So, progressive taxes are thought of as taking away the lack of equality in income distribution, but regressive taxes are found to have the result of increasing these inequalities.</p>
<p>The taxes that are generally thought to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are initially progressive, however, may become less so for the upper-income class—in particular if a taxpayer is able to lower his tax base by nominating deductions or by removing particular income elements from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates that are applied to lower-income groups will also be more progressive if exemptions of a personal nature are declared.</p>
<p>Income measured over the period of a given year might not necessarily give the best measure of taxpaying status. For example, transitory increases in income could be saved, and within temporary declines in income a taxpayer may decide to provide for consumption by taking from savings. So, if taxation is regarded alongside “permanent income,” it would be less regressive (or more progressive) than if held in comparison with annual income.</p>
